The University has implemented a pilot program allowing employees to work either a compressed 4-day work week with extended workdays or may work from home one day a week. Brief Job Overview/Summary

This position is a grant funded, part-time position from October 2023 to September 2024. This position will provide professional addictions-related counseling to Stockton University students at the Galloway and/or Atlantic City campuses. After hours and weekend responsibilities may be required. Provide their expertise and guidance in the creation of a support network to assist students in their recovery.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Individual Therapy and/or Group Counseling (Percentage of time: 90%)

  • Provide confidential, short-term, student-centered, culturally responsive, and solution focused individual and group counseling to students who may be experiencing addiction-related personal difficulties that interfere with their University adjustment and success
  • Provide initial assessments and drug screenings for inclusion into recovery housing
  • Provide counseling to individuals and groups regarding their use and the effects of alcohol and drugs
  • Collaborate with individuals and families to create individualized care plans
  • Assist individuals with meeting all requirements of their sobriety needs
  • Conduct walk-in, triage, and crisis services
  • Other clinical, outreach, and psychoeducational duties related to addiction and recovery as assigned by the Counselor, Counseling and Psychological Services/Wellness Center and Associate Director of Counseling and Psychological Services

Outreach and Professional Development and Departmental Functions (Percentage of time: 10%)

  • Provide consultation on substance abuse and recovery to the University community
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment program and communicate needs, progress, and identify and assist with barriers
  • Stay current and continue professional development by attending workshops, seminars and conferences pertinent to the University, Wellness Center, and Counseling and Psychological Services department mission, vision, and strategic goals
  • Participate in staff, consultation, clinical supervision, and other departmental meetings
  • Administer and interpret applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations that impact the scope of Counseling and Psychological Services. Support the translation of these into policy and operating procedures
  • Maintain proper credentials in good standing in the field of addictions, counseling and/or social work, or their area of practice including New Jersey state licensure
  • Collaborates with the outreach coordinator, housing staff, live-in coordinator, and recovery coaches
  • Utilize professional and ethical standards and conduct in all activities
  • Document all activities and participate in development of department’s end of year report
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Counselor, Counseling and Psychological Services/Wellness Center and Associate Director, Counseling and Psychological Services

 Required Qualifications

  • Active CADC or LCADC licensure or Similar related field or experience etc. (LAC, LSW or eligible)
  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, clinical psychology, or social work. Professional experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal, written, and oral
  • Effective organizational and administrative skills
  • Timeliness and attention to detail in work functions

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • College counseling experience
  • Excellent Spanish language communication skills, both written, and oral
  • Master’s degree in counseling, clinical psychology, or social work

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Problem Solving:
    Highly developed problem-solving skills for effective treatment planning and service delivery, as well as addressing office and university concerns.
  • Freedom to Act:
    The freedom to act is governed by existing rules, regulations, and policies within the laws and ethics code for professional psychology. Incumbent meetings with immediate supervisor should occur as directed by supervisor and as needed.
