Brief Job Overview/Summary

The Learning Access Program (LAP) is a unit within Student Affairs whose mission is to promote an accessible and inclusive environment for all students with disabilities. LAP is dedicated to giving students with disabilities the opportunity to perform at their highest academic potential. Under general direction, in support of Stockton’s disability inclusion initiatives, the Accommodated Testing and ASL Interpreting Coordinator will provide expertise to the university community on disability inclusion and accommodation strategies and accommodated testing coordination. This position will implement and manage accommodated testing services, manage specialized testing requests and environments, and coordinating interpreting services that meet the needs of our students. This position will stay informed on best practices and emerging trends in disability services and ASL interpreting and represent LAP on numerous university wide committees. Must have flexibility to work evenings and weekends periodically to address emergent tasks related to ASL interpreting, assist with large scale programming and other events.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Director of the Learning Access Program (LAP) is responsible for the following:

  • Provide administrative support for the Learning Access Program (LAP), including addressing inquiries from students, faculty, staff and the community concerns, welcoming clients and scheduling appointments using LAP’s data management system
  • Serve as the point of contact for LAP, responding to telephone calls and emails, providing detailed explanations about the program, and addressing inquires related to eligibility criteria and procedural matters with accuracy and professionalism
  • Manage the creation of student test schedules, coordinate private and group testing rooms, and ensure a distraction-free testing environment. Act as a liaison between students and faculty, promptly resolving testing issues. Compile and maintain data on accommodated testing, analyze usage trends, and provide recommendations for procedural enhancements
  • Serve as the University's American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting Coordinator, maintaining cooperative working relationships with interpreting agencies. Oversee the procurement process, including preparing and reviewing necessary paperwork for agency contracts. Monitor the ASL interpreting services budget, review invoices weekly, approve payments, and reconcile accounts.
    Coordinate interpreter placement, manage attendance, handle class cancellations, and respond to emergency needs. Serve as the liaison for the Stockton Campus, providing interpreting services for key events such as Open House, Orientation, and Commencement
  • Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate training programs for students, staff and others. Develop and facilitate comprehensive training sessions for student staff on test proctoring protocols, including the provision of serving as a reader or scribe as needed
  • May assign and monitor the work of clerical, part-time and/or student workers
  • Responsible for the Accommodated Housing Renewal Process and working collaboratively with the Office of Residential Life to address accommodated housing needs and placement. Monitor and report on legislative changes affecting housing accommodations in higher education and provide regular updates on these developments
  • Assist with the preparation and compilation of various reports, such as the Annual Report, Institutional Updates and ad-hoc requests, making recommendations as needed
  • Represent Learning Access Program at conferences, meetings, seminars and large-scale programming
  • Maintain and monitor the primary email accounts for the Learning Access Program and Testing, ensuring timely and professional correspondence between the Program, campus departments and the community
  • Supervise office operations, such as procurement of supplies, reviewing and processing timesheets for accuracy, and approving Web Time Entry (WTE). Advise and monitor leave requests and recap sheets for the LAP Director
  • Have flexibility to work evenings and weekends periodically to address emergent tasks related to ASL interpreting, assist with large scale programming and other events
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One (1) year of experience

OR

  • Five (5) years of professional experience in different aspects of administration and business practices; including design and implementation of policy and procedures, vendor service contracts and improving and updating management practices

Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.  "Professional experience" refers to work that is analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range of basic knowledge of the profession's concepts and practices; and is performed with the authority to act and make accurate and informed decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated mastery of relevant legislation: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504, and related standards
  • Prior experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a higher education environment
  • Prior experience as a testing proctor
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Accommodate data management system
