Brief Job Overview/Summary

This is an in-person on campus, non-remote position.

NOTE: This is a temporary position (anticipated time-frame through September 2025). Please note that the end date is determined by available TES hours and the completion of projects. The end date may be either sooner or extended

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Installs, repairs, and makes modifications on a variety of access control boards, card swipe stations, panic alarm devices, door alarms, electric and mechanical locks, and other supportive devices
  • Under direction of the supervisor, does the work involved in making, repairing, altering, and changing varied types of locks and keys; does related work as required
  • Repairs locks, padlocks, safe locks, door locks, and key locks
  • Makes and repairs keys of various types and operates key machines
  • Sets up and resets lock cylinders; rebuilds and installs locks; makes parts for locks and changes locks combinations by inserting new tumblers in shortening tumblers by filing them down
  • Assists other shops and trades as needed
  • Does carpentry and other work when it is necessary
  • Picks locks in emergencies
  • Other work as assigned by supervisor

Required Qualifications

  • Appointees will be required to possess a valid NJ driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the repair, alteration, and installation of locks, door checks, and keys of varied types
  • Able to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on a variety of electronic and mechanical access control systems
  • Technology skills, including working with Microsoft Office Suite, access control hardware or equivalent, low voltage electricity, and able to learn a variety of software products
  • Able to read, interpret, and work from plans, drawings, specifications, and oral directions; repair electrical and mechanical equipment; to follow oral and written directions
