Brief Job Overview/Summary

This position primarily reports to the Director of Athletic Operations and secondarily reports to the Director of Residential Operations, Facilities and Retention throughout the year primarily during summers. The Coordinator of Intramurals, Recreation & Residential Activities will oversee all operations for University Intramural, Extramural and Recreational sports programming as well as assisting with the organization and administration of campus fitness and well-being programming for the University community.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the effective delivery, evaluation, and reporting of the Intramural Program to include, but not limited to league, tournament, extramural, and event scheduling and implementation; program registration, equipment procurement, inventory, repair, and replacement; field/court preparation and inspection; and participant development and discipline.
  • Oversee the Intramural Recreational Council (8-10 student employees) and hourly TES with respect to matters on scheduling, budgeting, program offerings, training, and ensure compliance with all office and university policies for payroll and hiring. Coordinate publications, web sites, marketing and publicizing of intramural and recreation programs.
  • Assist in the supervision and coordination of the Fitness Center and wellness programs for the university community to include collaboration with relevant Student Affairs offices. Promote and advocate for wellness on campus via in-person interactions, informational handouts and electronic communications including email, social networking platforms and University website.
  • Participates in the development of cross functional unit-level planning and outcomes, monitors assessment of those appropriate outcomes, and assists in the development of plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes.
  • Serve on the Residential Life on-call rotation for emergency assistance and crisis intervention and maintain the monthly on-call schedule for Graduate Coordinators.
  • Organize all aspects of summer conferences including managing emails and phone calls, handling reservations, ensuring room readiness, and overseeing check-ins and check-outs.
  • Collaborate with departmental and campus partners to ensure smooth transitions for summer housing transitions, Live Work Learn and fall housing transitions.
  • Meet with families and students as needed and provide referrals to university resources. Communicate and respond to concerns from parents, guardians, and other constituents. Report student concerns through appropriate channels. Follow- up with students as directed.
  • Participate in enrollment management events for Residential Life and Athletics on weekdays, weekends, and nights including but not limited to open house, instant decision day, check in/check out, room preparation/checks, and any other programs that developed over the course of a semester.
  • Assist with the sponsorship, grant, and donation opportunities to include but not limited to researching opportunities, assisting with grant writing, and assisting with process of opportunities by working with immediate supervisor, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, and other appropriate offices.
  • Provide liaison with the Office of Plant Management with respect to intramural and recreational facility operations and maintenance and provide safety/risk management training and prevention programs for intramural and recreation programming. Driving vehicles to transport students on/off campus for events/activities. Maintain certification in CPR/AED.
  • Complete and submit all reports, evaluations, tracking, participant/staff records, travel requirements, employee/intramural manuals, recommend expenditures for intramural equipment, and other project and position-related paperwork and presentations in a timely manner.
  • Serve as advisor to eSports student organization/program. Coordinate eSports activities and events (e.g., games, travel, tournaments). Manage eSports budgets, recruitment processes, and administrative tasks/responsibilities.
  • Support the Athletics and Recreation vision, mission and values and work toward the achievement of identified departmental goal; foster cooperative and supportive working relationships with the staff in the department and contribute to a positive working environment.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation, Director of Athletic Operations, Assistant Vice President of Campus Housing and Engagement, Executive Director for Residential Life, Director of Residential Operations, Facilities and Retention and/or the Vice President for Student Affairs, or their designee.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years paid experience in a professional, supervisory capacity of a recreation-oriented program
  • Sport officiating experience
  • National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association Membership (NIRSA)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Demonstrated experience in a University Campus Intramural/Recreation program
  • Demonstrated success in personnel training and supervision of multiple staff/student staff members
