Brief Job Overview/Summary

The Associate Director of Employer Engagement & Outreach plays a key leadership role within the Career Education and Development team, serving as the primary liaison between Stockton University and external employers. This position is responsible for cultivating and managing strategic partnerships that expand access to internships, employment, and experiential learning opportunities for Stockton students and alumni. In addition to overseeing employer engagement efforts, the Associate Director supports the Director in managing the department's overall operations, contributing to strategic planning, team supervision, assessment, and cross-campus collaboration.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison for employers recruiting Stockton students and alumni, cultivating and managing partnerships to expand job, internship, and experiential learning opportunities
  • Identify and develop employer sponsorship opportunities that enhance their campus presence and generate revenue to support departmental initiatives
  • Collaborate with Career Education and Development (CED) liaisons, faculty, academic leadership, and Student Affairs partners to align employer engagement with career programming, academic programs, student organizations, identity-based groups, and leadership initiatives
  • Coordinate and execute employer engagement initiatives such as career and internship fairs, industry panels, networking receptions, information sessions, workshops, site visits, and employer treks to promote student career readiness and strengthen alumni-employer-student connections
  • Develop targeted outreach strategies to attract and sustain employer partnerships, while monitoring industry trends and workforce development to inform programming and advising
  • Manage employer activities and data in platforms such as Handshake and GrayDI, including job postings, event registrations, sponsorship tracking, internship data, first destination surveys, and employment trends; ensure data integrity and provide staff training
  • Evaluate engagement effectiveness, generate impact reports for leadership, and promote university career programs and sponsorship opportunities through consistent, branded communications tailored to alumni and employers
  • Partner with Alumni Relations and Advancement to increase alumni participation in career programming, including mentorship, speaker series, professional development, and leadership initiatives; provide career coaching and walk-in support for alumni
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management, University Relations & Marketing, and Alumni Relations to highlight student and alumni success, support first destination data collection, and contribute to the department’s annual impact report
  • Support the Director in setting departmental goals, operational plans, budget coordination, and strategic initiatives aligned with Student Affairs and University priorities
  • Supervise staff and student workers; assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and evaluation
  • Lead operational planning meetings and working groups to implement employer engagement strategies and student career readiness programs effectively; monitor and ensure proper use and compliance of key systems
  • Represent Career Education and Development in divisional and cross-campus collaborations, planning sessions, and operational groups; provide backup support for the Director in meetings and university initiatives
  • Participate in process improvement, policy development, university-wide assessment, and professional development to stay current in career services and higher education leadership
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse faculty, staff, students, employers, and external partners
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, career development, business administration, human resources, or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time professional experience in higher education, preferably in career services, employer relations, or student success programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of employer engagement best practices, career development theories, and strategies that support diverse student populations, including those from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds
  • Ability to assist in managing a department or program within higher education, including setting goals and benchmarks, planning and implementing initiatives, and developing policies aligned with University Strategic Plans
  • Skill in evaluating program effectiveness, analyzing data, and designing improvements to enhance employer partnerships, student career readiness, and overall program outcomes
  • Experience in developing, administering, and monitoring budgets related to programming, sponsorships, and departmental operations
  • Experience supervising and developing staff and student workers. Proficient in managing data systems related to employer engagement and student outcomes (e.g., Anthology, Handshake, GrayDI or comparable platforms) and ensuring data accuracy and compliance
  • Effective communicator and collaborator, able to build and sustain relationships with employers, alumni, faculty, staff, and external partners
  • Ability to travel within the state of New Jersey as needed to support employer engagement activities, student events, and professional development opportunities
