Brief Job Overview/Summary

Stockton University is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Director for the Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center in the School of General Studies, a non-tenured position. A world-renowned center for Holocaust education and research, the Holocaust Resource Center preserves and shares Holocaust history and life stories of Holocaust survivors in southern New Jersey through academic research and by serving as a repository for Holocaust materials, such as artifacts and oral histories. The Holocaust Resource Center works closely with Stockton faculty, students, and community to promote programing to commemorate the Holocaust and develop sensitivity and understanding by combating antisemitism, racism, hatred and oppression. The Holocaust Resource Center is central to numerous academic programs housed at Stockton University and the surrounding community including the Holocaust and Genocide Studies Minor, the Master of Arts in Holocaust and Genocide Studies & the High School Dual Credit program for Holocaust Studies.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Consult with the Director of the Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center (HRC) to assist in planning events, answering correspondence, fundraising, and furthering the mission of the HRC
  • Provide tours of the HRC and promote the resources of the center for educational and research purposes
  • Manage and maintain HRC budgetary accounts, pay invoices, submit Foundation Check ---requests, reconcile the Center’s credit card, and submit travel approvals
  • Maintain records for the HRC including the chronology files, archives, and artifacts
  • Provide updates for the HRC website. Maintain all HRC social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter)
  • Prepare written materials and photographs for annual reports and marketing collateral
  • Attend and serve as the recording secretary for the HRC Executive Committee meetings held approximately eight times a year
  • Conduct research and support Stockton faculty and student research, utilizing online databases, archives, and historical documents, to support exhibits/projects of the HRC, including the Holocaust Survivors of South Jersey Project, the Ullman Rescuers Exhibition, and other projects as directed by the mission of the HRC
  • Plan programs, workshops, and symposia designed to promote the implementation of -Holocaust and Genocide education and awareness in fulfillment of the 1994 New Jersey Holocaust & Genocide Education Mandate
  • Develop teaching materials, lesson plans, and traveling/permanent exhibitions
  • Travel domestically and internationally to represent the HRC at conferences, meetings, and seminars, and visit exhibitions, museums, and archives to conduct historical research
  • Develop and implement training sessions, seminars, and presentations for Stockton University faculty and students, high school students, and community members
  • Prepare communication with Holocaust survivors and their families in relation to community events, research, and information regarding the Holocaust Survivors of South Jersey Project
  • Serves as a liaison to maintain a cooperative working relationship between the HRC , Master of Arts in Holocaust and Genocide Studies Program, and the minor in Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Stockton University, Jewish Studies, and the High School Dual-credit program
  • Answer phones, prepare emails, and other correspondence in communication with students, faculty, executive committee members, educators, community members, and other stakeholders of the HRC.
    Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • BA in a related field
  • Two years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MA in related field
  • Experience supervising personnel in a union environment
  • Experience working with Banner, Argos, Degree Works or comparable student and management information systems in an educational setting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and social media platforms
  • Event planning/coordination
  • Archive/records management
  • Basic bookkeeping skills
  • Community relations
