This is an in-person on campus, non-remote position. The University has implemented a pilot program allowing employees to work either a compressed 4-day work week with extended workdays or may work from home one day a week. Brief Job Overview/Summary

Stockton University Campus Police Department is seeking to hire Campus Police Officers to work at its Atlantic City and Galloway Campuses. Stockton University offers a comprehensive benefits package which includes:

Please be aware that there are ongoing discussions between the New Jersey Civil Service Commission (NJCSC), the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association – State Law Enforcement Unit (PBA SLEU), the Governor’s Office of Employee and the State university police departments regarding the phasing out and elimination of the Campus Police Officer job title, so that new hires or those in that title can be hired/converted to Campus Police Officers, which would make the eligible for significant higher compensation.  The University envisions that this will occur in the near future, but the NJCSC is in charge of the timetable for the implementation of this new initiative to make the entry level sworn law enforcement titles more competitive with those who join other law enforcement agencies within New Jersey.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Under direction, provides foot and vehicular patrol to detect security problems, safety hazards, and to provide surveillance for an entire university campus or portion thereof
  • Participates in directed patrol activities to observe and detect unusual activates, circumstances, or violations of the law
  • Takes measures necessary to safeguard the lives and property of all
  • Takes appropriate steps to rescue people from life threatening and/or serious injury circumstances
  • Investigates criminal, civil and other complaints committed by or against the university and community, and observes established regulations and policy
  • Coordinates initial effort with public agencies and incident/crime scene
  • Preserves evidence/contraband by tagging, marking and/or sealing for safekeeping and, if necessary, transports evidence to court to assist with judicial proceedings
  • Helps to maintain order at places where people gather in numbers
  • Works special events or details to detect problems or illegal activities
  • Regulates and controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic, when necessary, to ensure safety and reasonable, rapid movement of traffic with a minimum of interference
  • Separates and arrests individuals as necessary to restore order at a domestic dispute in compliance with Domestic Violence and Intervention Act
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or vocational school in possession of an approved high school equivalent certificate
  • The appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey

Only applicants who meet the following criteria will be given full consideration:

  • Completed or currently attending a NEW JERSEY Police Academy
  • Basic Course for Police Officers (BCPO) PTC Certification from a New Jersey Academy
  • Alternate Route from New Jersey Police Academy
  • Lateral Transfers from a New Jersey Civil Service Police Department
  • Class II Officers (must have a minimum one-year experience as a class II)
  • **Class 1 Officers are not being considered at this time
  • Officers not hired as a Lateral Transfer will take at least 16 months to become Campus Police Officers at $53,548.14. The salary for Campus Police Officer is $40,000
