Brief Job Overview/Summary

The Tutoring Center Math Workshop Specialist supports student learning by assisting with math-related topics in a collaborative academic setting. This position involves working with students in various formats to help enhance their understanding of course material.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Math Workshop Specialist, individual would carry out the following responsibilities:
• Serve as a tutor in several sections of Math Workshop.
• Assist in the evaluation, training and support for Math Workshop tutors.
• Meet with FRST 1103 faculty to address concerns and needs of Math Workshops.
• Provide support, including tutoring for FRST 1103 students in the Tutoring Center in coordination with Tutoring Center staff.
• Support Math Workshop tutors in effectively managing classroom conduct.
• Attend and participate in tutor meetings and events related to assigned responsibilities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Expertise in topics covered in FRST 1103, such as algebraic modeling & probability.
• Expertise in the use of graphing calculators, particularly the TI-84 plus.
• Knowledge of current principles and methodologies in the field of tutoring.
• Familiarity with online homework systems used in mathematics.
• Ability to work independently on a strict timeline to achieve specific goals.
• Ability to advise and supervise undergraduate tutors.
• Ability to assume responsibility for multiple tasks and organize time efficiently.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in mathematics, mathematics education or related field required.
• Two years tutoring experience in mathematics or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Stockton University's math competency-level courses highly desirable.
